San Francisco Serenade

30"x 40" acrylic on canvas. I was struck by the impact of the financial crisis while touring around San Francisco as a tourist in 2008. As I wandered around the city I was shocked by the increase in the amount of homelessness, compared to my previous visits, and stumbled across this man playing beautifully on his guitar. The juxtaposition of the man, with the background of the financial district including the famous Transamerica building, captured the emotions and sadness I felt for this beautiful city at this point in time.
